GUERILLA KNITTING!!

Wow! What a day!

I picked my cousins Jasmine and Jordan up at 5:30am this morning and we headed into town eating banana bread, parked in Beresford Square and got to work installing my Guerilla Knitting. It was such an exhilarating experience and I am so happy with the outcome (hence all these photos!) Jasmine was the perfect helper installing everything and Jordan has taken some great images. The weather was perfect too, not raining and not cold! Amazing.
The images speak for themselves really, we installed in the dark but came back later and got some shots of everything in the light. And not too soon as it turns out. There were only 3 of the 6 toadstools left by 10:30am when Barbara from the KRd Business Association got to work and the bra was stolen by 12:30pm!! I am astonished it happened so fast and in broad daylight!

Thanks so much to Jasmine and Jordan Dodson for all your help today, Barbara for commissioning what is the most exciting thing I've done to date and Lou from OUi Boutique for facilitating the installation (of lightbulb cosies) that got this all started. I'm feeling such a great sense of accomplishment but really need to go and have a nap, I've been in such a frenzy ever since installing!

GO AND CHECK IT OUT!!

Sweet New Pics

I've been putting off knitting this bird for aaages because the only pattern I could find didn't really make sense but I finally finished it this morning, after some modifications..

These images of the bird and nest are, for the first time in quite a while, images that I am completely happy with!

After these images I think I've decided not to sew the bird onto the nest/eggs like I had planned to because she looks much better placed at a distance. I don't know how this will work on the nikau palm they are destined for but I'll give it a go!

I put some wire into the toadstools this morning to keep them nice and steady when they're in the traffic island. I think once they are in a suitable environment they look less like the popsicles they resemble otherwise which is a bit of relief I have to say!

INSTALLATION THIS THURSDAY!!

I've commissioned my cousin Jasmine to make me a banner with my name on it! Sharon Margaret. This test was done in order to prove that black blanket stitching looked good..

Post Tonsillectomy Knitting

I had my tonsils out last Monday and seeing as I've had to take two weeks off work I wrote myself a list of knitting to get done for Craft Hatch in Melbourne and as of today I've finished!
I took some new product shots on a mirror, I am not entirely happy with these, the backgrounds vary a bit too much so I'd like to try again with something other than my off-white ceiling reflecting in the glass.. wonder how patterned material would look?

latest knitting..

These are the toadstools that will be put into the main, long traffic island on Krd as part of my 'Guerilla Knitting' project.. I've knitted 3 large and 3 small. These were really exciting for me because they involved Jasmine having to teach how to 'knit in the round' - something I've been putting off learning for years - knitting with four double pointed needles!

After learning how to knit in the round I then proceeded to make up the pattern for this bird's nest, using moss stitch which I had to google because again, it's something I've never done. I'm particularly proud of the eggs too.. I made them up as I went. Next up (and the final part of this project!) is a bird or two. Yikes!

Once the birds have been knitted this bird's nest will be stitched onto one of the nikau palms outside St Kevin's Arcade, it'll sit on the explosion of growth that happens about half way down..

I've been accepted into 'Craft Hatch' which is a monthly craft market run by Craft Victoria in Melbourne. As I'm completely out of my usual stock the next few weeks I am going to be frantically knitting tampon, allsort and plaster brooches, nipple tassels, donuts, cheeseburgers, sandwiches and chelsea buns!

Here are the first 10 tampon brooches ready for their brooch backs.

Social Light

Just got the flyers for an exhibition that I'm in during the photography festival! I love them.. I love my image on a black background! It's not something I've tried, it looks so awesome coming out from the shadows with no definite edges. I am so excited to be exhibiting with Robyn Hoonhout, I've admired her work ever since I saw it in an Elam show last year, this show is the first my images have been in that really really relates to everything my work is about! It's going to be a great show..

Giant Tampon!

This is something that has been an idea of mine for over a year now and I've finally completed the first Giant Tampon! It's not exactly practical or use-able in any way but really, what's not to love?!

YAY!! I've installed my lightbulb cosies in another window! Barbara from the KRd Business Association asked if I would like to install them in the window of their new premises in Beresford Square.. to which I of course said yes!

Next Big Project

I've been commissioned by the KRd Business Association to knit adornment for the trees on KRd! I am so excited, it's quite a dauntingly big project but it's exactly what I need to accomplish before I go away..

Here's the draft sketch of what I'll do with the tree in Beresford Square, next to the Supper Club, I'm knitting 60 - 100 bulbs (depending how long each one takes!) that will be stuffed and strung onto twine to resemble coloured fairy lights..

This tree opposite St Kevin's Arcade will be given a knitted bra with bow detailing..

Boy am I excited!!
