On this, the day I took down my exhibition work, I just wanted to take a moment to appreciate just how gloriously awful Paramount Arcade is.. That gold detailing! Those mirrors everywhere! Those terracotta, mint and forest green hues! 80s architectural perfection..

Maurizio Anzeri

I normally can't be bothered posting work by artists I don't know, mainly because I'm usually a bit behind the times and that's a bit embarrasing BUT I just had to share the work of Maurizio Anzeri. How great are these? From what I can make out from the German (?) site I stole them from they are stitched works on shoots from Dazed and Confused mags. I love.

The Hessian Hunt

'Arthur' and an awesome life-size birch tree

Sleepy birch people

Some of the installed pieces and a delicious, delicious spread

'The world's best cupcakes'

If anyone thinks they have the best/most talented/most awesome cousin ever they're wrong. I do. Her name is Jasmine and she's been working ever so hard towards this awesome show that's all installed at Crave cafe - 25 McDonald St, Morningside, which is in Auckland for anyone lucky enough to be in that city and able to see the work in person.
I have always been awed by Jasmine's talent, she puts my knitting to shame for starters. I once gave her a bag of scrap wool I wasn't going to use and she made a patterned cardigan out of it! With buttons made from sawn slices of branches for crying out loud..
And now she's making giant deer heads and the most delightfully whimsical art, involving my favourite birch trees and her favourite woodland folk.. To see images of this show she's put together just warms the cockles of my heart to pretty much boiling point - well done Jaz, I love you!

Second Hand Heart

I finished knitting this heart for my dear friend Jess the other day.. not entirely sure what it's wanted for but I do know it has something to do with her awesome band - Second Hand Heart. Who can be internet stalked via either facebook or tumblr, or seen in real life at one of their sweet gigs performing dreamy, beautiful music.. I particularly enjoy Jess and Lil's interwoven vocals and the times when there are multiple percussionists!

I thought I should make the most of the last hours of having an awesome Canon in my keeping and take some images of a few of my favourite things..

Corinna Berndt

Don't you just love when you already think that someone is awesome and then they show you the photographs they've been working on and they somehow manage to trump themselves? That's what happened the other night with me and Corinna. She is one talented lady! These images she's been working on are for an upcoming exhibition that I will most certainly be checking out - The Glutton and the Gourmand which is on from Sept 28 till Oct 22 at the Hawthorn Town Hall. They remind me of 70s food photography from a cookbook with a title like 'Microwave Cooking' and make me feel ill in a way that I love.
My exhibition has been featured on Broadsheet! Yes, that's right, BROADSHEET. Too exciting. Check it out here.. xx

So! Here we have it.. my exhibition! I forgot my memory card yesterday but I'm so glad I did because it meant I used the camera I'd borrowed to make a few artsy videos as a stills camera too.. such a great lens.. thanks Lauren/Lauren's sister!
As I believe I've said already but can't resist saying again - I am so happy with the way it's turned out! Especially as my biggest worry was that I didn't have enough work..
Now, onto the next project.. I'm not coping well with nothing to stress out about..

The very lovely Robecca has written some rather nice words about me and my practice on NZ based website Thread - A real purler.. thank you so much hun!

Robecca also happens to be a very talented lady herself, a veritable vintage clothes queen with her label Sans Pareil. I finally asked and found out today that it means 'unparalleled' in french, and how apt that is.
I love the new images of her range, not only because I happen to count her beautiful model as one of my dearest friends (and love her in black lippy!) but because Robecca's style is just so great. She's constantly rocking up in clothes that she's just whipped up during the day, making me green with envy. She also regularly posts personal looks on lookbook so be sure to check her out!
